This photo of the St. Clair County Courthouse was taken circa 1953. Completed in 1861, the Greek Revival building was located at the site of the current courthouse in downtown Belleville. Its demolition in June of 1972 sparked the beginning of the preservation movement in St. Clair County and Belleville.
