The building featured in July of the Belleville Historical Society’s 2026 Seeing Belleville Through Stained Glass Calendar is the original home of the Belleville Savings Bank on East Main Street, now home to Belleville Books.

When the Belleville Savings Bank opened its new building on East Main Street in 1913, it was the largest and oldest bank in Belleville. Otto Rubach was the architect. The Vermont granite front with its 25-foot-tall pillars conveyed a sense of strength and solidity to convince depositors that their money would be safe. Major renovations to the building occurred in 1919.

A bank merger led to the closure of the bank building in 1957. The building now is home to Belleville Books and features stained glass in a meeting room upstairs, as well as interior doors and windows throughout the building.
