Celebration of the 25th year of legal sale of beer at the Carling Western Brewery, 1958

Celebration of the 25th year of legal sale of beer at the Carling Western Brewery, 1958. Items from the historical society’s Belleville brewery and saloon collection will be on display at the Historic Garfield Street Saloon during Museum Day on Saturday, June 6.

Belleville’s second, and final Museum Day for 2015 will take place on Saturday, June 6, from 10 am to 3 pm.

The Belleville Historical Society will have on display Belleville brewery and saloon items from the society’s collection at the Historic Garfield Street Saloon Museum (633 East Garfield Street). Music heard in saloons of the period will be performed during the day by accordion virtuosos Hans und Fritz, otherwise known as Mardy Eisloeffel and Charles Weyhaupt.  At some point they will play Belleville-native Hamilton G. Paro’s Company D March, probably last played by a military band when John Philip Sousa came to St. Louis in 1895 – the year the Garfield Street Saloon opened for business.

Food available on the patio will include grilled brats and hotdogs, as well as homemade lemonade, tea, chips, and sweets.

The St. Clair County Historical Society’s Victorian Museum and Emma Kunz House, the Belleville Labor & Industry Museum, and the Koerner House – with an encampment of Civil War reenactors – will all be open during these hours.
